Dwight Eubanks of The Real Housewives of Atlanta and Married to Medicine has revealed he was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer.
In an interview with People, published on June 2, the celebrity hairstylist said he “freaked out” when he received the news after getting bloodwork done during a health fair at his church.
“I was shocked. I was angry,” Eubanks, 64, recalled. “I was just emotionally a wreck.”
“Society has told us that cancer was just devastating and, you know, you just have days to live. So, of course, I freaked out and I think I’m still freaked out,” he added.
Eubanks appeared on earlier seasons of RHOA with NeNe Leakes, Shereé Whitfield, and Phaedra Parks. He later joined Married to Medicine.

He told People he’s been living with HIV since the 1980s, and gets routine medical exams twice a year.
But after learning he had cancer, he said he was told the disease could have been detected as early as 2022, if his doctor had taken a closer look at his high prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels.
“I was like, are you kidding me? This was back in 2022, and nobody said anything to me. He just said, ‘You’re undetectable, so you are fine.’ Never said anything about my prostate. I guess they just weren’t looking at that,” Eubanks stated.
According to the American Cancer Society, about 1 in 8 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
The average age when men are first diagnosed is about 67, and the risk is higher in African American men and in Caribbean men of African ancestry than other races.
Right now, Eubanks and his doctors are deciding on a treatment plan.
“I have a great team, about four different doctors: two urologists, another specialist, and my family physician. So I’m comfortable, and I’m forever grateful to have such a team and support. And we are going to figure it out,” he said.
Eubanks told People his grandfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer nearly three decades ago, but he hid the disease from his family and died from it.
Instead of remaining silent, Eubanks is using his voice to raise awareness.
June is Men’s Health Month and he’s partnering with ZERO Prostate Cancer this month to encourage other men — especially Black men — about the importance of getting screened.
“What’s amazing about it is that I feel like a higher power has been preparing me for this moment to be a light of hope for others,” he said.
