Dwayne Johnson said he’s personally battled COVID-19, and it was a nasty fight.

Johnson revealed Wednesday in a video posted on Instagram that he and his family tested positive for the virus. In the caption for the post, he urged fans to protect themselves.

“Stay disciplined. Boost your immune system. Commit to wellness. Wear your mask. Protect your family,” he wrote. “Be strict about having people over your house or gatherings. Stay positive. And care for your fellow human beings. Stay healthy, my friends.”

In the 11-minute video, the Moana star said he’s been dealing with the virus for “two and a half to three weeks now.”

“I could tell you that this has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family, and for me personally as well,” Johnson said. “And I’ve gone through some doozies in the past, I’ve gotten knocked about and gotten my ass kicked a little in the past … But testing positive for COVID-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted, or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times.”

He added that fighting coronavirus was different because his top priority was to protect his family.

“I wish it was only me who tested positive,” he said, “so this one was a real kick in the gut.”

He added that the entire family is now “stronger and healthier.”

“We as a family are good. We are on the other end of it, we’re on the other side, we are no longer contagious. And we are, thank God, we are healthy. And we’ve gotten through COVID-19 stronger and healthier.”

The actor believes they contracted the virus from close family friends.

“My takeaway here isn’t necessarily keep them away, I’m not saying that. But what I am saying is now apply an even greater discipline to having people over to your house,” he said.

Johnson and his wife Lauren Hashian are parents to daughters Jasmine, 4, and Tiana, 2.
