DeRon Horton, an actor best known for his role as Lionel Higgins on the TV version of Dear White People, was shot in the arm just days before Christmas.
Horton posted about the incident Jan. 16 on his Instagram page.
“First off. I wanna give an honor to God for covering me and protecting me to make it out this situation and countless other ones,” Horton began his post.
He included several photos from his hospital stay, along with an X-ray that showed where a bullet was lodged in his arm.
Horton continued, “Everybody that checked on me n holla’d at me specially my family n friends I love yall, Thank you. Gettin shot a few days before Xmas def wasn’t on my wish list.”
He explained that a gunman shot “through the car” at him and the bullet broke and shattered his arm. Horton did not share where the incident took place.

“I’m out the hospital now healing,” revealed the actor.
He later added that he got “a plate and screws in his arm,” which upset him because he won’t be able to “work out for a minute.”
“I don’t need no sympathy I’m finna bounce right back I feel amazing. I just wanted to remind yall and myself to Keep God first! Stay Alert n Grateful for Everything. the devil can’t stop sh*t when you walk w God,” ended his post.
His former Dear White People co-stars Ashley Blaine Featherson-Jenkins and Logan Browning still sent him well-wishes in the comments section of the post.
“Thank GOD for your life. I’m so so SO happy you’re ok,” Featherson-Jenkins wrote, while Browning added, “Dear God, thank you for protecting my special DeRon.”
Samuel L. Jackson, who starred with Horton in The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey also commented on the post: “Glad you’re still with us, Tuff Stuff!!! Good thing you’re covered by the All mighty. Hoping you heal quickly & painlessly as possible. Stay Blessed.”
