Rapper A$AP Rocky was charged on Monday with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm in connection with a 2021 shooting in Hollywood.
The charges, which include “allegations of personally using a firearm,” stem from a run-in the rapper — real name Rakim Mayers — had with a former associate on Nov. 6, 2021, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release.
During a heated discussion, Mayers allegedly pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the victim, prosecutors said. Mayers is accused of firing twice in the direction of the victim.

The male victim sustained a minor injury, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The shooting occurred around 10:15 p.m. in the area of Selma Avenue and Argyle Avenue.
“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.”
After several months, LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division detectives took A$AP Rocky into custody on April 20 at Los Angeles International Airport, police said at the time.
The rapper had just returned to California on a private plane from Barbados, where he had been on vacation with his then-pregnant girlfriend Rihanna, as previously reported. He was released from an LAPD jail facility after immediately posting $550,000 bail
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles on Aug. 17
