Longtime ABC News reporter Janai Norman has been named co-anchor of the weekend edition of Good Morning America, the network announced Tuesday.
Norman joined the company 11 years ago, and will now share the anchor desk with Whit Johnson and Eva Pilgrim each weekend.
“Janai is a versatile and talented journalist, whether she is anchoring at the desk, conducting a one-on-one interview with a newsmaker of the day or reporting in the field on breaking news,” said Kim Godwin, president of ABC News, in a memo to staff.
Godwin added, “She puts her heart into her work and makes it a priority to cover the most important underreported issues of our time, including the maternal mortality crisis facing Black women and the stigma of mental health.”

Norman started at ABC News as an intern in the company’s News One affiliate service in 2011. She returned in 2016 to cover politics as a multi-platform reporter in the network’s Washington, D.C. bureau, before becoming overnight anchor for World News Now and America This Morning.
Most recently, she hosted Pop News, joining the team when the second hour launched on Saturdays in October 2019.
Prior to ABC News, Norman worked in local TV news as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor in Columbia, Missouri; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Orlando, Florida.
Norman’s promotion at the network comes after longtime ABC News anchor Dan B. Harris left the weekend edition of GMA last year to pursue entrepreneurial ventures.
Harris is now focusing on his “10% Happier” meditation company, which includes a podcast, a smartphone app, and the book “10% Happier: How I Tamed the Voice in My Head, Reduced Stress Without Losing My Edge, and Found Self-Help That Really Works – a True Story.”
