Rapper and singer Roddy Ricch was arrested Saturday in New York City, just hours before he was scheduled to take the stage at the Governors Ball music festival.

Ricch, whose legal name is Rodrick Moore, was taken into custody with two other men when the Cadillac Escalade they were traveling in was stopped at a security checkpoint around 6:20 p.m., the New York Police Department told the New York Post.

The NYPD said a security worker hired for the Queens concert noticed a Canik 9mm under a seat in the vehicle. Authorities also reported finding an “extended magazine” that contained additional ammunition.

“The reason we do these checkpoints is for expressly this purpose. We don’t want people introducing guns in this venue,” an NYPD spokesperson told The Post.

Ricch, 23, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, and possession of an unlawful feeding device.

The other men with the Compton, California native were identified as Carlos Collins, 57, of New Jersey and Michael Figueroa, 46, of Brooklyn. They two are also facing gun charges, police said.

The festival announced on its official Twitter account that Ricch had been removed from the lineup. “Unfortunately Roddy Ricch is no longer performing today,” the festival tweeted shortly after 7 p.m. ET on June 11.

The Governors Ball ran from Friday, June 10 to Sunday, June 12. Other performers at the event included Kid Cudi, Jack Harlow, Playboi Carti, Becky G, J. Cole, and Jazmine Sullivan.

Ricch got his start with mixtapes and caught the attention of music industry insiders. His 2018 single, “Die Young,” became a breakout hit. He signed with Atlantic Records and released his debut studio album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial in 2019.

That same year he was featured on the Nipsey Hussle single, “Racks in the Middle,” which earned a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance. Ricch was also featured on rapper DaBaby’s 2020 hit single “Rockstar.”
