Los Angeles police are investigating a shooting outside a Super Bowl weekend party on Saturday morning that left rapper Kodak Black and three others injured.
Shots rang out around 2:45 a.m. after a fight broke out in the 400 block of North La Cienega Boulevard, LAPD Officer Drake Madison told the Los Angeles Times.
Three men ages 19, 24 and 60 were struck by gunfire, the LAPD said. Multiple media outlets identified the 24-year-old victim as Florida rapper Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill Kapri. All four of the victims were listed in stable condition and their injuries were not life-threatening.
The violence unfolded outside an afterparty at the Nice Guy restaurant following a Justin Bieber concert, TMZ reported. The gunfire was apparently triggered by a fight involving Kodak Black.
Video posted online showed the hip-hop star standing alongside rappers Gunna and Lil Baby outside the restaurant. Then someone yelled “Oh shit! What?” Seconds later, a crowd could be seen running behind a red Ferrari as the fighting continued.
Of the four people shot, paramedics transported two to an area hospital by ambulance. The two others self-transported for medical treatment, the LAPD said. The shooters fled the area and remained on the run, with no arrests immediately made.
The afterparty was held following a concert at nearby Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. The star-studded audience included Leonardo DiCaprio, Drake, Tobey Maguire, and Jeff Bezos, according to published reports.
Kodak Black is no stranger to police. The rapper has been arrested multiple times and was pardoned by former President Donald Trump in January 2021, as previously reported. He was serving time on a 46-month sentence after admitting to falsifying information on federal forms to buy firearms when he was pardoned by Trump.
“President Trump granted a commutation to Bill Kapri, more commonly known as Kodak Black. Kodak Black is a prominent artist and community leader,” the White House said in a statement.
Prior to that case, Black was arrested in April 2019 on separate gun and drug charges near Niagara Falls, New York, while trying to enter the U.S. from Canada. He faced allegations of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and unlawful possession of marijuana.
The Haitian-American rapper was born Octave Dieuson in South Florida and later changed his name to Bill Kapri.
Super Bowl LVI takes place tonight at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, which is just outside of Los Angeles.
