Will Smith apparently disagrees with Steve Harvey’s suggestion that it’s impossible to obtain wealth if you sleep eight hours a day.

Last year, Harvey dispensed that advice to the audience on his talk show, Steve. The multi-hyphenate said to be financially successful in life, you can’t afford to get a full night’s sleep.

“What you gotta do to get to life that God wants you to have, you got to put more air in your bubble, you got to blow your bubble up, expand yourself, get out your comfort zone,” Harvey said.

The video resurfaced on social media in May 2019 and went viral. Smith got wind of Harvey’s remarks and responded this week with a video on Instagram.

The clip, captioned “stay woke,” showed Smith catching a nap on a sofa, while Harvey’s speech played in the background.

“Rich people don’t sleep eight hours a day,” Harvey said before the video cut to Smith snoring loudly.

“That’s a third of your life. It ain’t but 24 hours in a day, you cannot be sleep eight hours a day,” Harvey insisted.

Smith then sat up looking confused. Seconds later, the clip cut to Harvey saying: “You can’t live in L.A. and wake up at 8:00 in the morning. It’s 11:00 on the East Coast, the stock market been open two hours.”

Smith put his head in his hands and went back to sleep.

Harvey ended the segment on his show by quoting a verse from the Bible.

“The Bible says, ‘He who loves to sleep and the folding of hands, poverty will set upon you like a thief in the night,’” he said. [You can watch the video here at the 2:00 mark]

The comedian and author then asked the studio audience: “Who knows somebody that loves to sleep. Let me ask you something, ain’t they poor?”

Harvey’s comments were met with backlash. Some critics even quoted the Centers for Disease Control, which recommend adults ages 18-60 years old get seven or more hours of sleep each night.

Perhaps Harvey, who also hosts Family Feud, now has more time to sleep.

Days after his speech resurfaced in May, his talk show was officially canceled.

A short time later, NBC announced it was replacing him as host of Little Big Shots, to make way for Melissa McCarthy. NBC Entertainment Co-Chairman Paul Telegdy called the host change a “real refresh” for the show.
