The first trailer for Tyler Perry’s The Gospel of Christmas brings heartache, hope and a crisis of faith.
Netflix released the teaser on Friday. It follows Durrell “Tank” Babbs as Isaac, a pastor who inherits his family’s church in a troubled New York neighborhood. Fantasia Barrino Taylor co-stars as his devoted wife Rebecca.
Isaac is losing faith with his church facing foreclosure and he worries his son has a development disability.
Rebecca urges him to turn to prayer, but Isaac is having a hard time believing praying will make a difference.
“I prayed for our son to speak. And I also prayed for my father to live. See how my prayers are working out?” he says.

The strain begins to take a toll on their marriage, with Rebecca warning her husband: “You’re slipping back into the man you used to be before I met you.”
She later breaks down in tears and tells him, “I love you and I don’t want to lose you.”
Isaac is also shown searching for support as he struggles to find a way forward.
“Brother, have you ever been so low you don’t know what to do?” he asks a friend.
Despite all those challenges. Joyful music plays throughout the footage as the couple turns to their church, their community and music for the strength to keep going.
The cast brings together gospel stars including Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, Smokie Norful, Jekalyn Carr, the Clark Sisters, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Ann Nesby, Le’Andria Johnson, Hezekiah Walker, CeCe Winans and Shirley Caesar.
Ricco Ross, Chanté Moore, John Gray, Carl Lentz, Mason Douglas, Lauren Chanel and Eric Wiltz also have roles in the film.
Kirk Franklin produced the music. While Tyler Perry wrote, directed the drama and produced the drama alongside Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland.
