Netflix is giving viewers a first look at Give Me Some Sugah, the upcoming faith-based film starring Taraji P. Henson as a Chicago bakery owner whose life takes an unexpected turn.
In newly released photos, Henson is seen in the kitchen cooking. Another image shows her in an intense meeting, hinting at the emotions behind the film’s story.
The actress plays Lenore Lindsey, whose real-life reunion with her son inspired the movie.
According to Netflix’s description, Lindsey is “stunned by a miraculous discovery that challenges her to reclaim lost time, heal old wounds, and find purpose in the unexpected.”

The discovery began years before the cameras rolled. Lindsey was 17 when she gave up her newborn son, Vamarr Hunter, for adoption in the 1970s.
Hunter learned he was adopted at age 35 and later began searching for his birth mother. By then, he was a regular customer at Lindsey’s popular Give Me Some Sugah bakery in the city’s South Shore area.
He signed up for genetic testing, which confirmed Hunter and Lindsey were related.
“It’s the most joyful story and time in my life,” Lindsey told ABC7 Chicago after their reunion. “In my senior years, all of this has come together.”
She credits the reunion to God and said her son remained in her thoughts over the years.
The film was first announced in October 2025, and previously titled ’Tis So Sweet. Joey Bada$$, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, stars alongside Henson.
The cast also includes Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Russell Hornsby, Alexis Louder, Semaj Prather, Arischa Conner, Angela Davis, Caroline Avery Granger, Tasha Smith and DeVon Franklin.

Give Me Some Sugah is scheduled to begin streaming on Netflix Dec. 16.
