S.W.A.T. Exiles doesn’t premiere for a few more weeks, but the team behind the show has already gotten some good news.
Producer Sony Pictures Television just renewed the police drama for a second season, series lead and co-executive producer Shemar Moore announced Monday, Aug. 10 in a video posted to Instagram.
“I’ve got such great news. S.W.A.T. Exiles just got picked up for season 2, baby. That’s right. We start shooting in a couple of months, but first mark your calendars because season 1 is coming September 25th, exclusively on Starz,” Moore shared.

The 10-episode first season follows Hondo, who was sidelined after a high-profile mission went wrong. Now, he’s being pulled out of forced retirement to lead an experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of young recruits.
The cast includes Lucy Barrett (Deep Water), Adain Bradley (Warfare), Zyra Gorecki (La Brea), Freddy Miyares (When They See Us), and Ronen Rubinstein (9-1-1: Lone Star).
Along with the newcomers, original S.W.A.T. stars Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit are returning for the spinoff. David Lim, who played Officer Victor Tan, will reprise his role in episode 9, according to Sony Pictures Television.
The spinoff was announced after CBS canceled S.W.A.T., then revived the series before ultimately ending its eight-season run in May 2025.
Sony decided to continue the story and greenlit the spinoff before Starz picked up the first season.
In addition to finding the police procedural a TV home in the U.S., Sony said in June it inked deals for the show to air in Europe, Latin America, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa.
“The response to S.W.A.T. Exiles has been extraordinary and is a testament to the strength of the franchise,” Keith Le Goy, chairman of Sony Pictures Television said earlier this year.
S.W.A.T. Exiles premieres in the United States Sept. 25 on Starz, with select international markets rolling out the show that same day.
