A hot mic appeared to capture what many viewers were thinking Sunday, when President Donald Trump lingered onstage at the FIFA World Cup trophy ceremony in New Jersey.
After helping present the medals to Spain’s national football team following their 1-0 victory over Argentina, Trump seemingly refused to leave while the players waited to celebrate with the championship trophy.
Spanish captain Rodrigo Hernández Cascante, known to fans as Rodri, appeared to nudge Trump along so the team could have its moment. FIFA President Gianni Infantino then tried to guide the U.S. president away from the players, yet Trump stayed put.
As confetti rained down, Rodri hoisted the trophy into the air, and the players did a celebratory dance, but Trump was still there.

A host with Australia’s Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) was caught on a hot mic saying, “They’re gonna edit him out of that.”
The comment quickly went viral after the MeidasTouch Network shared the clip on X with the caption, “Trump crashes Spain’s World Cup trophy presentation.” The video now has more than 1.5 million views.
Yahoo Sports identified the broadcaster as Claudio Fabiano. His prediction turned out to be accurate.
Shortly after the ceremony, the team shared a photo of their trophy celebration on social media — and Trump was nowhere to be seen.
