New details just dropped about the eighth and final season of The Chi, including the premiere date.
The 10-episode season is scheduled to debut Friday, May 22 on Paramount+ with the premium plan.
A new teaser trailer shows the characters will be forced to make life or death choices, and a voiceover warns “everything has to come to an end.”
According to a press release from Paramount+, “Legacy, conflict, joy, and pain” all collide in what’s being described as the “biggest” season yet of the crime series.
The drama tells the story of residents from Chicago’s South Side who are “linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.”
Season 7 followed Alicia (Lynn Whitfield) becoming a boss and avenging her son’s death. Consumed by vengeance, she ultimately met her fate in the seaon finale. Whitfield earned an NAACP Image Award for her performance on the series.
The main cast for the upcoming episodes includes Jacob Latimore, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Hannaha Hall, and Jason Weaver.
Emmy winner Lena Waithe (Twenties, Master of None) created and executive produces the show under her Hillman Grad banner.
In October, Waithe released a statement via Showtime and Paramount+ announcing the show would be ending with season 8.
The drama is co-executive produced by showrunners Justin Hillian for Hillianaire Productions and Jewel Coronel for Uncut Gems.
Additional executive producers include Common, Aaron Kaplan, Rick Famuyiwa, Resheida Brady-Anderson, Derek Dudley, Shelby Stone, Naomi Funabashi, Rishi Rajani, and James Rogers III.
Co-executive producers Deondray Gossfield and Quincy LeNear Gossfield are returning to direct multiple episodes.
The drama series debuted in 2018. The final chapter of The Chi is scheduled to premiere Friday, May 22, on Paramount+.
Fans can catch up on the drama by streaming previous seasons of the show on Paramount+.
