Newly released police body camera footage shows Justin Timberlake’s DWI arrest after the singer was pulled over during a traffic stop in Sag Harbor, New York in 2024.
The “Cry Me a River” performer’s lawyers tried to block the release of the bodycam video, arguing in legal documents earlier this month that the footage would cause “irreparable” damage to his public image.
“The harm from public exposure—stigma, harassment, reputational injury, and the permanent loss of privacy” would be “immediate and irreparable,” the attorneys stated.
Despite that argument, authorities released the footage on Friday, March 20.
Timberlake, now 45, is shown after he was pulled over by officers from the Sag Harbor Police Department.
They tell him he ran a stop sign and veered out of his lane. “Yeah, sorry about that,” the singer says.
The officers ask what he’s doing in the area. “I’m on tour,” Timberlake responds. “I’m on a world tour.”
“Doing what?” A confused officer asks.
“Hard to explain, a world tour,” the singer says. “I’m Justin Timberlake.”
He takes a field sobriety test and struggles to walk in a straight line. Frustrated, the singer tells the two officers “these are, like, really hard tests.”
Additional footage shows Timberlake inside the police station. He sits in handcuffs that are chained to a desk and says, “You boys treat me like I’m a criminal.”
One officer compliments him for being cooperative during the arrest process.
At another point, Timberlake jokes about his race while filling out a form. “White?” he says jokingly.
The “Rock Your Body” singer is later shown in a cell, and appears shocked when told he’ll have to spend the night in jail until his arraignment the next morning.
Still, the officers have a bit of good news — he might be able to move to another area “where they have blankets.”
“I’m being held all night? You guys are wild man,” Timberlake says.
One of the officers responds, “It’s the situation that we’re in, unfortunately. I’m trying my best to treat you like anybody else, okay?”
The timestamp on the videos say Timberlake was stopped at 12:19 a.m. on June 18, 2024. He was arraigned and released the next morning.
The singer originally pleaded not guilty to “driving while intoxicated,” but changed his plea to guilty in September 2024, to a lesser charge of “driving while impaired.”
As part of his plea deal, he was ordered to make a public service announcement about the dangers of driving while impaired, pay a $500 fine, and complete 25 to 40 hours of community service at a nonprofit of his choice.
