After seven seasons, The Chi will soon reach its final chapter.
Paramount+ released first-look photos of the eighth and final season of the crime drama, and teased the characters will face their “coldest winter ever.”
There will also be a lot of tough choices to sort out. “The question becomes, who is willing to make them? Legacy, conflict, joy, and pain. It all collides in the biggest, most emotionally riveting way ever seen this season on The Chi,” the official description reads.
The drama tells the story of residents from Chicago’s South Side who are “linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.”

Season 7 followed Alicia (Lynn Whitfield) taking control and avenging her son’s death. Whitfield earned an NAACP Image Award for her performance as Alicia in the season.
The new season stars Jacob Latimore, Birgundi Baker, Luke James, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Hannaha Hall, and Jason Weaver.
The Chi is created and executive produced by Emmy Award winner Lena Waithe (Twenties, Master of None) under her Hillman Grad banner. The series is executive produced by co-showrunners Justin Hillian for Hillianaire Productions and Jewel Coronel for Uncut Gems.
In October, Showtime and Paramount+ announced the show would be ending after its upcoming eighth season and Waithe released a statement.
“When I created The Chi, it wasn’t just about making a TV show — it was about owning our narratives and telling our stories with truth, care, nuance and complexity. It was about showing the soul of the South Side — the beauty, the pain, the grit, and the magic that lives in every block, and in every family,” Waithe said.
Production on the new season got underway in January 2026. The final season will stream on Paramount+. A premiere date for season 8 will be announced later.
