Buckle up because Scary Movie 6 is on the move.

Earlier this week, Paramount Pictures released the first trailer and announced the horror movie spoof would arrive in theaters on June 12.

After the trailer went viral on social media, the studio shifted the release date. Marlon Wayans, who stars in the film, produced, and co-wrote the script, shared the news with fans in a video on Instagram.

“I have some good news and I have some bad news,” Wayans said. “The bad news is we’re no longer going to be releasing on June 12th.”

He then explained why.

“The good news is, due to the overwhelming response and worldwide excitement, we are releasing a week earlier — that’s right June 5th is the new date for Scary Movie! We’re starting off the summer with a bang and a laugh fest.”

As he trolled for laughs, Wayans added a bit of sexual innuendo.

“Some of y’all might think it’s a premature release, but hey, we’re doing it,” he said while laughing.

Moving the film up a week gives it more time to cash in during the lucrative summer movie season. But that also gives it more competition on June 5, with the action adventure Masters of the Universe; the Ryan Reynolds and Jason Momoa-led Animal Friends; and Power Ballad starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas all opening on the same weekend.

Scary Movie 6 reunites the “core 4” — Shorty (Marlon Wayans), Ray (Shawn Wayans), Cindy (Anna Faris), and Brenda (Regina Hall) as it spoofs popular horror franchises.

The cast also includes Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Heidi Gardner, Lochlyn Munro, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, and Sydney Park.

Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) directed the film from a script written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez.

The Wayans family launched the franchise two decades ago. After the first two films, they lost creative control to movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. The Wayans are now back in the driver’s seat and Marlon said the team behind the film is currently in the edit booth.

The official trailer has been viewed more than 3.5 million times on YouTube alone since March 2. Several bootleg versions on YouTube have also racked up millions of views.

It might be a safe bet to predict, Scary Movie 6 will scare up a lot of ticket sales.
