Starz shows are back on Verizon Fios after a new distribution agreement ended a carriage dispute that left subscribers without access to the network’s programming.
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, Starz announced all of its channels, Starz On Demand and access to the Starz app through Verizon Fios had been restored.
“We are pleased to have reached a mutually beneficial agreement that brings Starz’s premium programming to Verizon Fios customers,” Alison Hoffman, president of Starz Networks, said in a statement to Urban Hollywood 411.
Hoffman added, “We remain committed to delivering bold storytelling for women and underrepresented audiences and to serving viewers who value our distinctive programming.”
The agreement ends a blackout that began on Oct. 1, after the two companies’ previous licensing agreement expired. Financial terms of the new deal were not disclosed.
The dispute over distribution fees spilled into public view, with Starz and Verizon trading accusations about who was responsible for the breakdown in negotiations.
Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, whose Power franchise and BMF air on Starz, publicly criticized Verizon, saying the blackout was blocking access for viewers to watch diverse programming.
Verizon defended its commitment to diversity and accused Starz of seeking higher distribution fees that would have increased customers’ bills. Starz pushed back, accusing the provider of mischaracterizing its position and failing to work toward a deal.
With a new agreement now in place, Fios subscribers can again watch the full Power universe and Fightland, along with every episode of Outlander and its prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
Starz also highlighted its upcoming programming, including Power: Origins, the next season of P-Valley, and the current season of crime drama S.W.A.T. Exiles, along with the thriller Tip Toe.
Beyond its TV lineup, Starz’s movie slate includes Michael starring Jaafar Jackson; Jason Statham’s action thriller Shelter; In the Grey featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill and Eiza González; and the musical comedy Power Ballad starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas.
