Uche Ojeh, husband of Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has died after battling brain cancer. He was 45 years old.

Today’s Savannah Guthrie announced Ojeh’s death during Friday’s broadcast. She was joined on set by co-hosts Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, Carson Daly, and Jenna Bush Hager

“With profound sadness we each share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our dear friend and Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” Guthrie said.

“There are no words for the pain that we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children. Uche was an incredible person, we all loved him,” Guthrie added.

Sheinelle reposted the video on her Instagram page and included a caption saying: “Thank you, for all of your love and support.”

The two Northwestern University alums were married 17 years. Today played a tribute video and shared stories about Uche.

“Sheinelle and Uche met when Sheinelle, then a freshman, offered to show Uche, a visiting high-school senior, around campus. They married in September 2007, and share three children, Kayin, Uche, and Clara. Uche was a devoted husband, loving father and a man whose bright spirit touched everyone who knew him,” read a tribute on the show’s Instagram page.

In January, Sheinelle said she would be stepping back from the third hour of Today because of a “family health matter.”

“It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the support of my Today show family, but to also have all of you. Your kindness means so much to me,” she shared on social media.
