Tessa Thompson is speaking publicly for the first time about her sexuality, and her rumored relationship with Janelle Monáe.
The Westworld and Sorry to Bother You actress tells Net-a-Porter she is bisexual, and says her family has been supportive.
“I’m attracted to men and also to women,” Thompson said. “If I bring a woman home, [or] a man, we don’t even have to have the discussion.”
Thompson has long been rumored to be in a relationship with Monáe, especially after appearing in the singer’s music video for the single PYNK.

Thompson didn’t confirm they are dating, but said they are close.
“Janelle and I love each other deeply. We’re so close, we vibrate on the same frequency. If people want to speculate about what we are, it doesn’t bother me,” Thompson explained.
The actress added that she and Monáe want to keep their private lives private.
“It’s tricky, because Janelle and I are just really private people and we’re both trying to navigate how you reconcile wanting to have that privacy and space, and also wanting to use your platform and influence,” she said. “That was something I was conscientious of in terms of this declaration around Janelle and myself. I want everyone else to have that freedom and support that I have from my loved ones.”
Earlier this year, Monáe came out as pansexual in an interview with Rolling Stone.
