After the mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas left 19 children and 2 adults dead on Tuesday, Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr delivered an impassioned plea for elected leaders to take action against gun violence.

“Any basketball questions don’t matter,” Kerr told reporters at a pregame news conference, before his team took on the Dallas Mavericks for Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.

“When are we going to do something?” Kerr said as he slammed his fist on the table while his voice broke. “I’m tired. I am so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastated families that are out there. I am so tired of the excuses. I am sorry, I am tired of the moments of silence. Enough!”

He continued by looking directly into the camera and pleading with Republican senators to pass gun control legislation.

“There’s 50 senators right now who refuse to vote on HR8, which is a background check rule that the House passed a couple years ago. It’s been sitting there for two years. There’s a reason they won’t vote on it — to hold onto power,” he said.

“So I ask you [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell, I ask all of you senators who refuse to do anything about the violence and school shootings and supermarket shootings,” he added. “I ask you: Are you going to put your own desire for power ahead of the lives of our children and our elderly and our churchgoers? Because that’s what it looks like. It’s what we do every week.”

Kerr was then overcome with emotion. “It’s pathetic! I’ve had enough,” he said before walking out of the news conference.

He has been outspoken for years about stopping gun violence. His father was killed in a terrorist attack in Beirut in 1984, ESPN reports.
