Nicki Minaj was briefly detained Saturday, May 25, in the Netherlands for alleged drug possession.

The rapper, born Onika Tanya Maraj, recorded an Instagram Live video showing officers asking her about drugs in her luggage. A fan account re-posted the footage on X (formerly Twitter).

“Oh, I’m under arrest? Under arrest for what?” Minaj asked.

She was told, “Please stop filming now,” and “could you step in the car please?”

“No, I need a lawyer because I don’t know where I’m going,” she responded.

A spokesperson for police in Amsterdam told NBC News they “arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol Airport because of possession of soft drugs.”

Dutch police later posted on social media that the rapper had been sent on her way, according to published reports.

“We have just released a 41-year-old American woman whom we arrested this afternoon at Schiphol on suspicion of exporting soft drugs,” the post said. “The suspect was fined and can continue her journey.”

In a second video posted on Instagram, Minaj spoke from behind the camera to a man in a suit, who told her officers wanted to search her luggage again “because you filmed [the police officer].”

In the caption for the video, the rapper suggested she was being set up.

“They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show. They took my bags before I could see them. Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs,” she wrote. “This is what it looks like when ppl are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal.”

Over on X, the rapper retweeted a fan who wrote, “They found weed and have to weigh it in a country where it’s legal??!!! Amsterdam REALLY??????”

Minaj added a caption to the fan’s post, writing: “…told you, it’s to try to make me late so that they can write negative stories. Jealousy is a disease. You know the rest.”

The rapper was on her way to Manchester, England, when the incident occurred. Video posted on X showed fans outside a stadium in England chanting “Free Nicki.”
