Mike Tyson is facing backlash from his fan base after joining President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in New York.
The former heavyweight champion visited the White House on Friday, Oct. 9, and stopped by a press briefing.
When reporters asked him how Republicans will perform in the midterm elections, Tyson responded, “I think Donald Trump will win.”
The boxer then boarded Air Force One with Trump to campaign for New York Republican Bruce Blakeman, who is hoping to unseat Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul. At the rally, Trump invited Tyson on stage.
“I’m just happy to be out here with my president, President Trump, and there’s no way in the world I would ever be here if it wasn’t for a president like Donald Trump. Thank you,” Tyson said.

Tyson’s comments quickly went viral, with political and entertainment outlets picking up the video.
Society & culture outlet Triip posted the footage on Instagram. Tyson’s fans filled the comment section and many were not happy.
“I thought Mike was ok but I take that all the way back,” one person wrote.
“Used to be a Tyson fan….but f*** that sellout!” someone else commented.
“Can’t even watch this, but we all know Mike easy to manipulate,” another person added.
Someone else compared Tyson to the late Muhammad Ali.
“Exactly why Muhammad Ali will always be better. Case closed,” the person wrote.
Despite the reactions, Tyson’s friendship with Trump goes back decades.
According to USA Today, the two have been friendly since 1988, when Trump reportedly paid $11 million to host Tyson’s heavyweight title fight against Michael Spinks in Atlantic City.
Trump later briefly served as an adviser to Tyson. While their business relationship was short-lived, their friendship continued, with Tyson attending Trump’s inauguration in January 2025, the USA Today article said.
