Two years after her exit from HLN, Michaela Pereira is returning to television news as a morning anchor at KTTV, Fox 11 in Los Angeles.

In an announcement Thursday, the station said Pereira officially starts in October as co-host of Good Day LA, which runs weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.

“It is incredible to be back home on the West Coast and return to the air in a city that has been incredibly generous to me, since I first arrived 16 years ago,” Pereira said in a statement.

The newscaster will anchor alongside Tony McEwing and Araksya Karapetyan, who will now also anchor from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. Additionally, Rita Garcia will solo anchor from 4 a.m. to 5 a.m.

“I am thrilled to add Michaela’s years of both local and national experience to the talented Good Day LA’ team,” the station’s vice president and news director, Erica Hill-Rodriguez, said. “She is an outstanding journalist who has a deep love for Southern California and what matters to our communities, and can deliver that information in a way that uniquely connects with viewers.”

Pereira previously anchored rival KTLA’s morning newscast for 13 years. She left the station in 2013, to join CNN’s New Day. She later moved to CNN sister network, HLN, and hosted the daily MichaeLA, which was canceled in 2018.

She began her broadcasting career on CHEK-TV in Victoria, B.C. Canada, and was previously a host for ZDTV/TechTV on the shows Internet Tonight and TechLive.

Michaela Pereira is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, the Black Journalists Association of Southern California and American Women in Radio and Television.
