Extra has signed Melvin Robert as a senior correspondent and weekend co-host, the syndicated entertainment news show announced Thursday.
Robert will be based in Los Angeles alongside main anchor Billy Bush and correspondents Rachel Lindsay and Jennifer Lahmers.
“Melvin is not only a strong journalist, interviewer and storyteller, he is dynamic and his energy and authenticity pop off the screen,” Extra executive producers Theresa Coffino and Jeremy Spiegel said in a joint statement.
Robert previously served as co-anchor of “Your Morning” and host of “The SoCal Scene” on Spectrum News 1 Southern California, a regional cable news station. He joined Spectrum when the channel launched in 2018, and won Emmy and Golden Mike awards for his work at the channel.
Before his career in television, Melvin Robert spent 11 years in education as a teacher, counselor and administrator, working with at-risk and challenged students.
Extra is produced by Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Telepictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. The show airs weekdays on Fox owned-and-operated stations in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, San Francisco, Houston, Detroit and Orlando, among others.
The show kicks off its 29th season on Monday, Sept. 12.
