Marques Houston made headlines in 2020, when he married a woman who was two decades younger.
At the time of the wedding, Houston was 39 and Miya Dickey was 19.
On this weekend’s episode of the TV One interview series, Uncensored, Houston addresses the backlash.
“Me and my wife’s situation is a little different, how we met through mutual friends and everything like that,” the actor and singer says in a preview clip obtained by The Shade Room. “When I met my wife she was 17.”
The Sister, Sister star insists he was never intimate with Miya when she was underage.
“We had no, really, conversation and no, really, connection until she was of age,” he says.

Despite their age difference, Marques told the TV One interviewer he has a lot in common with Miya.
“People don’t understand it. And, of course, I got a lot of backlash for marrying someone that was 19,” he says. “And you know, when we did finally start to talk, I was like, ‘This woman is like me,’ and she was just, like when I would talk to her, she’d just, for one, we had a spiritual connection and I feel like that’s the most important thing. We both love God. We both love Jehovah and that was key.”
The clip has people talking once again about the former Immature band member.
Social media users filled the comment section of TSR‘s post and much of the reaction was negative.
“Dude what u got in common with a child!?” one person wrote.
“If he thinks we believe him………,” someone else posted.
“Lord! She couldn’t even have champagne at her OWN WEDDING because she was underage. What did they drink? Lemonade? Sprite?” another person added.
“To catch a predator…the r&b edition,” someone else wrote.
Houston hasn’t responded to the latest criticism since the clip was posted this morning.
The episode of Uncensored airs Sunday at 10p/9c on TV One.
