Lil Nas X returned to social media with a candid health update, nearly a year after his 2025 arrest and court-ordered mental health treatments.
The Grammy-winning rapper uploaded his first Instagram post in over a year on Wednesday, June 17, sharing a nearly three-minute video to update fans on his life. The “Old Town Road” artist, whose legal name is Montero Lamar Hill, said he had been away from social media while battling personal struggles.
“I’ve been in rehab for a few months, and since then, I’ve been back at home trying to ground myself back to earth and get out of my head,” he explained.
The rapper said he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and began seeing a psychologist and a psychiatrist. He said his mental health treatments had been “really helpful.”
“When I got my bipolar disorder diagnosis, I feel like I had known for the past few years, but I didn’t want to admit to it, because I didn’t want to have to take medication, and I don’t know, have people think different of me,” he explained. “I’m already Black and gay … I’m like, living life on ‘extreme hard’ mode.”

Since undergoing treatment, he said he has continued to improve. “I’m doing better. I’m feeling better,” he said.
He also teased new music. “I want to let you guys know that there is new music on the way, and I’m not getting completely into that just yet, but I’m excited to do that, and I’m excited to go on this journey with you guys, this next chapter,” he said.
Lil Nas X ended the video with a message to his supporters and referred to them as his “Montourage.”
“We’ve been through so much together. Thank you guys for holding me down,” he said.
The rapper and singer has been out of the spotlight since Aug. 21, 2025, when bystanders recorded viral videos of him singing and walking down the middle of a Los Angeles street around 4 a.m., while wearing only white underwear and cowboy boots.
A follow-up video later posted to X showed the rapper in the street completely nude. People in the neighborhood called 911 and the LAPD responded. Authorities said he “charged at officers” and was arrested.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office released a statement describing Hill as a “threat to public safety.” Prosecutors charged him with four felonies — three counts of battery with injury on a police officer and one count of resisting executive officer.
The rapper pleaded not guilty. He was released on $75,000 bail, and ordered to attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings or outpatient treatment.

Urban Hollywood 411 was in the courtroom on April 6, 2026, when a judge suspended the rapper’s LAPD battery case for two years.
The decision came after defense attorney Christy O’Connor told the judge the “Industry Baby” performer had undergone two months of inpatient treatment at a facility in Arizona for bipolar disorder and was doing much better.
“Every week, he meets with his psychologist who prescribed medication for his mental health condition,” O’Connor said.
The attorney said getting arrested was “very humiliating” for the rapper and he knew he needed help.
The judge said the case will ultimately be dismissed as long as the rapper continues to undergo mental health evaluations, takes all prescribed medications, attends weekly sessions with a psychologist and complies with other court-ordered conditions.
As he walked out of the Van Nuys courthouse, the rapper smiled and told reporters he was “thankful.”
