Kodak Black is behind bars, again.

The 28-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, was taken into custody in the Orlando, Florida area Wednesday, May 6, on suspicion of trafficking more than 10 grams of MDMA, according to the Orange County Sherriff’s Office’s online inmate locator.

More commonly referred to as ecstasy or molly, MDMA is a stimulant and hallucinogen used primarily in party settings, according to the DEA.

Florida news station WPLG 10 reported, Kapri’s latest arrest is tied to a November 2025 investigation by Orlando police after residents reported shots being fired near Children’s Safety Village, a nonprofit offering activities to at-risk kids.

The TV station obtained the arrest warrant for the rapper, which says officers responded to the scene and found a group of people standing around two luxury SUVs. Officers reportedly smelled cannabis burning near the vehicles, giving them probable cause to conduct a search.

While looking inside a Lamborghini SUV, officers said they found a bag containing a substance later identified as MDMA, about $37,000 cash, and documents with Kapri’s name on them. The warrant states investigators compared some of the seized items to pictures posted on the rapper’s Instagram page.

The music star and others at the scene denied the bag was theirs, but Kapri reportedly tried to claim the cash, saying it belonged to his business, the warrant states. Kapri was charged with trafficking MDMA in an amount between 14 and 200 grams.

The rapper appeared in court Thursday afternoon. He entered a not guilty plea and asked for a jury trial, NBC 6 South Florida reported.

An attorney for the hip-hop star told the judge his client flew in from California to surrender, and should be granted $10,000 bond for his cooperation.

The judge disagreed and set Kapri’s bond at $75,000, citing 12 previous felony convictions, two misdemeanor convictions, and one citation for failure to appear.

As the judge said, the rapper is no stranger to law enforcement. He was previously arrested on weapons possession, trespassing, assault, drug possession, and tampering with evidence charges.

The hip-hop performer had a federal sentence commuted by President Donald Trump on his last day in office in January 2021, as previously reported. Kapri was serving a 46-month sentence after admitting to falsifying information on federal forms to buy firearms.

“President Trump granted a commutation to Bill Kapri, more commonly known as Kodak Black. Kodak Black is a prominent artist and community leader,” the White House said at the time.

The rapper was born Dieuson Octave in Pompano Beach, Florida, and later changed his name to Bill Kapri.

His mother is a Haitian immigrant and little is known about his father. The artist has previously said his dad abandoned the family when the future performer was a child, according to XXL.

The hip-hop star’s most popular song was “ZEZE” (featuring Travis Scott and Offset), which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2018.
