Keith Martin, Singer Known for Hit Single ‘Because of You,’ Found Dead

Keith Martin, an R&B singer best known for the ballad “Because of You,” was found dead Friday at his condominium in Quezon City, Philippines. He was believed to be 57 although some reports said he was 55.

According to CNN Philippines, neighbors notified building security after noticing a foul odor coming from a unit on the 6th floor. Police were then called to the scene and officials estimated Martin had been dead for a week.

An investigation is underway to determine his cause of death.

The singer-songwriter was born in Washington, D.C., and released his first album “It’s Long Overdue” in 1995. That same year, his first single, “Never Find Someone Like You,” climbed to No. 43 on the R&B singles chart.

Over the next decade, Martin produced, wrote and continued to release music. He gained an international following and released “Because of You.”

He moved to Manila in 2004 to be an in-house producer for EMI Philippines and to develop Asian artists, according to published reports.

Martin was also a foodie and regularly posted pictures of dishes he cooked on his Instagram page.
