CBS-owned television station KCBS has a new morning anchor.

The Los Angeles station announced Wednesday that longtime CBS News Correspondent, DeMarco Morgan, is joining the weekday morning program from 4:30-7:00 a.m., in addition to the 11 a.m. newscasts.

Morgan will co-anchor alongside Suzanne Marques, meteorologist Danielle Gersh and traffic reporter Jennifer Kim.

Steve Mauldin, president and general manager of KCBS-KCAL, said in a statement he is “thrilled” to have Morgan join the team.

“He is an outstanding broadcast journalist with tremendous breaking news experience who will add his own special brand of integrity and enthusiasm to our morning newscasts,” Mauldin stated.

Prior to joining KCBS, Morgan has been a New York-based CBS News correspondent since 2015. He previously held positions at WXIA-TV in Atlanta,  WNBC-TV in New York, and WTVJ-TV in Miami.

The journalist has covered many high-profile news events throughout the years, including Aretha Franklin’s funeral in August 2018, and the October 2018 kidnapping of Wisconsin teen Jayme Closs.

Morgan’s first day at the station is May 6.

His hiring comes after previous morning news anchor Jeff Michael moved to evenings.

Mike Nelson, senior vice president of communications for CBS Television Stations recently confirmed to Urban Hollywood 411 that Michael would co-anchor CBS 2’s weekday 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts with Pat Harvey.

Nelson would not comment on the status of previous evening anchor Rick Garcia, although his bio is no longer listed on the station website.

KCBS and sister station KCAL have undergone a series of on-air staff changes in recent months.

Weekend evening anchor and weekday reporter Elsa Ramon left the CBS-owned duopoly in May 2018, followed by longtime Los Angeles newscaster Leyna Nguyen in July 2018. Andrea Fujii and Jackie Johnson also recently left KCBS-KCAL.
