Jon B released his hit single “They Don’t Know” back in 1998.
Now nearly three decades years later, the R&B singer says the song continues to endure.
Jon B recently sat down with the “Can We Talk RNB” podcast and said the track is frequently sampled, but there’s one version he never wants to hear again.
“It does get sampled every year by someone. Last year it was Gunna and Chlöe Bailey, they put that ratchet record out, that I couldn’t stand and I wish they never did,” Jon B said about the duo’s 2022 song “You & Me.”

What’s worse, he claimed the pair didn’t even get permission to use the single, which he co-wrote with music producers Tim Kelley and Bob Robinson.
“[They] actually never got my rights to do that record, either, so Gunna we gotta holler about that. That’s some business shit we got to handle. Yeah I mean, you know what, it’s all a compliment to what we did,” he added. “That’s Tim and Bob’s compliment. That’s my compliment, but at the same time my lane is my lane and my area is my area and I earned that. If you made a hit in your area, you do your song whatever it is, I’m not going to just come into your area take your joint, and make it mine and then not pay you or whatever.”
“They Don’t Know” was the third single on Jon B’s studio album Cool Relax. The track climbed to #2 on the Billboard Hot R&B chart and it peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100.
