Jennifer Beals is heading to Alaska to track down a killer in the upcoming Lifetime film Murder in Cold Country.
The network just greenlit the crime thriller, which pairs The L Word actress with Big Sky star Katheryn Winnick, the network announced Wednesday.
The two will star as detectives brought together by tragedy in the original film, which is expected to premiere in winter 2027.
Beals plays Miami detective Maya Lewis, who is struggling to recover from a brutal encounter with a serial killer who murdered her husband and held her captive for days.
Hoping to rebuild her life, Maya relocates to Alaska, where she is partnered with Detective Joanna Doyle, played by Winnick. Joanna is dealing with a devastating past of her own.

Their partnership gets off to a rocky start when the women recognize each other from group therapy and immediately distrust each another.
“When their first case involves another therapy-group member who has been targeted by a killer using methods eerily similar to those from Maya’s past, the detectives must set aside their differences to uncover the truth,” according to the official description.
The movie is based on a story by bestselling author Tess Gerritsen, whose books inspired the TNT crime series Rizzoli & Isles, and Dan Rosen (The Last Supper).
The two also wrote the screenplay for the film, with Greg Beeman directing. Bruce Harvey produces for CMW Valley Productions Inc. in association with Studio TF1 America.
Beals’ past credits include Flashdance, The Book of Boba Fett, Luckiest Girl Alive and Devil in a Blue Dress.
She currently stars on the new CBS police drama NCIS: New York as Robyn Wells, director of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) New York field office and will next be seen in the upcoming Prime Video drama series Bishop.
Winnick is best known for playing Lagertha on Vikings and Jenny Hoyt on ABC’s Big Sky. Her other credits include Sean Penn’s Flag Day, with upcoming roles in My New Friend Jim and The Last Cargo.
Beals is represented by CAA, Constellation Media Group, Felker McGinnis and Ryan LLP, and Jill Fritzo PR. Winnick is represented by CAA, Alchemy Entertainment and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
