Jackie Burke Dies: ‘E! News’ and ‘The Bachelorette’ Producer Was 62

Jackie Burke, an Emmy Award-winning television producer, has died. She was 62.

Burke passed away on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, in Los Angeles after a two-year battle with cancer, according to an obituary obtained by Urban Hollywood 411.

During her 40-year career in entertainment news, Burke was often one of the few African Americans behind the scenes making editorial decisions.

“Before entertainment news had people of color on air, Jackie was really the only Black person in the room,” her friend, comedian “V” aka Vana Thiero, said in a statement.

Burke graduated from the University of Southern California School of Journalism, and got her start as a production associate at Entertainment Tonight. She later moved to The Turner Entertainment Report and CNN’s entertainment unit in Los Angles. She spent 18 years as a producer at E! News, and additionally worked on the KTLA Morning News, ABC’s The Bachelorette, TV Guide Channel, BET, WFAA-TV, and with A-list celebrities on the red carpet.

She was a firm believer in giving back and mentored USC students who aspired for careers in journalism.

Burke is survived by her mother, Eddie Burke; her brothers Ken and Keith; seven nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park Mortuary, 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd, Westlake Village, CA.
