Fantasia Barrino fell to her knees and brought the audience to its feet during a powerhouse performance on American Idol.
Fantasia returned to the series on Monday, April 28, two decades after she won the competition and rose to fame.
Host Ryan Seacrest welcomed the North Carolina native to the stage Monday night to perform her new gospel single, “Have Your Way,” from her upcoming album.
Wearing a sparkling silver gown with a thigh-high slight and black tights, Fantasia worked the stage with backing from a gospel choir. She was eventually overcome with emotion and dropped to her knees.

At the end of the performance, she received a standing ovation from the audience and Idol judges.
Seacrest mentioned Fantasia, who served as an advisor this week, has a new podcast in addition to her new music. He asked the singer how she was feeling after performing.
“The world is going through a lot right now and we need more God, so I allowed him to use me on the biggest stage ever,” she said.
Fantasia, 40, won season 3 of American Idol in 2004. Since then, she took home a Grammy Award in 2010 for best female R&B vocal performance for “Bittersweet.”
The singer and actress portrayed Celie, a victim of domestic violence, in Broadway musical The Color Purple from 2007 to 2008.
She reprised the role in the 2023 film adaptation from producers Oprah Winfrey, Scott Sanders, Quincy Jones, and Steven Spielberg.
The role earned Fantasia attention in Hollywood and an NAACP Image Award for outstanding lead actress in a motion picture.
