Drake got a lukewarm reception at his friend Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw music festival Sunday night in Los Angeles.
The “In My Feelings” rapper was booed off stage after fans learned he was the surprise guest headliner for the evening. The crowd at Dodger Stadium had been expecting Frank Ocean, Tyler’s former bandmate in hip-hop collective Odd Future, as the mystery performer.
Instead it was Drake, who performed nine songs before the restless audience suggested it was time for him to exit the stage.
“I’m here for you tonight. If you want to keep going, I will keep going tonight. What’s up? If you want to keep going, I will keep going tonight,” Drake said.
The crowd shouted “no!” Then booed him off stage and chanted “we want Frank.”
“Well, look,” Drake said. “It’s been love. I love y’all. I go by the name of Drake. Thank you for having me.”
Tyler, the Creator was not pleased and took to Twitter Monday to accuse the audience of “acting like a–holes.”
“I thought bringing one of the biggest artist [sic] on the f–king planet to a music festival was fire!” he tweeted. “But the flipside, a lil tone deaf knowing the specific crowd it drew. Some created a narrative in their head and acted out like a–holes when it didn’t come true and I don’t f–k with that.”
Tyler wasn’t done ripping the crowd. “That sh-t was like mob mentality and cancel culture in real life and I think that sh-t is f–king trash,” he added in a second tweet.
Other performers announced in advance at the festival included Tyler, Solange, DaBaby, 21 Savage, Juice WRLD, Earl Sweatshirt, FKA Twigs, and YG.
Compton native YG brought out former adult film star and Donald Trump nemesis, Stormy Daniels, for his song “FDT (F–k Donald Trump).”
“My name is Stormy f–king Daniels, and I am the reason that Donald Trump is f–ked,” Daniels said to cheers.
