Grammy-winning music legend Chaka Khan continues her reign as the “Queen of Funk.”

The 71-year-old singer made an appearance at NPR’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., delivering a “Tiny Desk” Concert for the platform’s Black Music Month series.

This latest series focuses on Black women artists, celebrating veterans who paved the way and talents shaping Black music today.

In the concert video uploaded on Tuesday June 11, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee graced the stage with an eight-piece band and background singers, treating the audience to more than 30 minutes of music showcasing her biggest hits.

Khan began her set with “Tell Me Something Good.”

“Thank you so much for being here at ‘Tiny Desk.’ It is Tiny. But it’s nice to be so close together with all of you,” she said at the end of the song.

The singer then moved into “What Cha’ Gonna Do For Me” and seamlessly transitioned to “Stay.”

The performance continued with “Sweet Thing,” where Khan seemed delighted by the audience’s enthusiastic response — especially because they knew most of the words.

Maintaining the high energy, she performed “Through the Fire.” At one point she exclaimed, “Hallelujah, and I’m a Catholic,” followed by a chuckle.

After introducing her band, Khan proceeded with “Ain’t Nobody” and concluded the concert with the powerful anthem “I’m Every Woman.”

Since emerging in the 1970s with funk band Rufus and later embarking on a successful solo career, Khan has crafted a legacy that includes 22 albums and 10 Grammy Awards. Her 50 years in the music industry culminated in a well-deserved 2023 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
