Aaron Carter, a singer, rapper and the younger brother of Backstreet Boys performer Nick Carter, was found dead on Saturday at his home in Lancaster, California. He was 34.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a possible drowning at a home in the 42500 block of Valley Vista Drive at 11 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release.
A house sitter found an adult male unresponsive in a bathtub and called 911, the release said. The house sitter was advised to begin CPR. Once fire department personnel arrived on the scene, the man was pronounced dead.
Authorities did not release the deceased man’s name. But TMZ reported the person who died was Aaron Carter.

A live report by CBS Los Angeles showed police tape around the home, with an RV and an SUV parked in the driveway. The station reported Carter’s fiancée, and the mother of their 11-month-old son Prince, arrived at the home after news of the singer’s death spread.
The Carter’s management company later confirmed his death to the media.
“We are extremely saddened and shocked to confirm the passing of Aaron Carter today,” his agent Roger Paul said in a statement. “At the moment, his cause of death is being investigated. We ask that you give the family time, and they will have more information when available. We cannot express the outpouring of love coming in.”
No cause of death was given.
Carter had a history of substance abuse. In 2017, one of his reps confirmed that he was in rehab after Carter shared on social media: “I would like to tell all of you that I will be disappearing for a while to work on myself.”
Just weeks before his death, police went to Carter’s house after fans called authorities for a welfare check because he appeared to be huffing on Instagram Live, TMZ reported on Sept. 25.

Born in Tampa, Florida, in 1987. Carter sold a million copies of his self-titled debut album at age 9. His 2000 follow-up Aaron’s Party sold 3 million copies in the U.S. alone.
Over the next several years he made guest appearances on Nickelodeon shows and toured with the Backstreet Boys. He later appeared on Dancing with the Stars.
Carter tweeted that he was selling his Lancaster house on Oct. 29, and linked to a listing for $799,900 on Zillow. The listing said the home has seven bedrooms and four bathrooms. Lancaster is about 70 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.
“Selling my 2nd home. Real estate has been super good to me,” Carter tweeted. “Ready for a new chapter in my 3rd home which I plan on stay in to make a beautiful life for my family. This year has been super tough but I’ve learned so much. Thanks for the support everyone.”
