S.W.A.T. Exiles is set to report for duty this fall.

The series will premiere Sept. 25 on Starz, after the cable network purchased the rights to air the police drama in the U.S.

The 10-episode S.W.A.T. spinoff follows LAPD Sgt. Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (played by Shemar Moore), who was sidelined when a high-profile mission went sideways. He’s been “pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits.”

Moore is also an executive producer on the series and said in a June 29 press release,S.W.A.T. Exiles is coming in hot! I couldn’t be more excited that Starz is bringing this next chapter to audiences in the U.S.”

Sony Pictures Television Studios (SPT) produced the 10-episode series. In addition to finding the police procedural a TV home in the U.S., the company said it secured international deals for the spinoff to air in Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa.

“The response to S.W.A.T. Exiles has been extraordinary and is a testament to the strength of the franchise,” said Keith Le Goy, chairman of Sony Pictures Television.

The spinoff was first announced in May 2025 after S.W.A.T. ended its eight-season run on CBS, which canceled then un-canceled the series twice before giving it a final season to say goodbye.

S.W.A.T. Exiles engages a deeply passionate fanbase that aligns strongly with our audience,” stated Alison Hoffman, president of Starz Networks. “We’re thrilled to join forces with Sony to be the first place U.S. fans can experience this thrilling new chapter in the franchise.”

With the spinoff focusing on a new generation of S.W.A.T. team members, SPT cast Lucy Barrett (Deep Water), Adain Bradley (Warfare), Zyra Gorecki (La Brea), Freddy Miyares (When They See Us), and Ronen Rubinstein (9-1-1: Lone Star).

Original stars Jay Harrington, who played Sgt. David “Deacon” Kay; and Patrick St. Esprit, who portrayed Commander Robert Hicks, will reprise their roles on the new show. David Lim, who played Officer Victor Tan, will return in episode 9, according to SPT.

The production house has also secured deals for the show to air on Sky GSA (Germany, Switzerland, Austria), Sky New Zealand, Stan in Australia, Rai and Sky Italia in Italy, DPG in Flemish Belgium, Tet in the Baltics, Bell Media in English Canada, and Quebecor Content in French Canada.

S.W.A.T. Exiles premieres in the U.S. Sept. 25 on Starz, with select international markets rolling out the show that same day.
