The remains of lifestyle influencer Ashlee Jenae have been returned to her loved ones after she died under mysterious circumstances earlier this month in Africa.
Family friend Savannah Britt, who is a publicist in Los Angeles, announced the news in an April 23 post on X.
“Ashlee Jenae’s body has been returned to the United States. Please keep her family in your hearts and prayers as they await the results of the autopsy and the investigation continues,” Britt posted.
Ashlee’s father, Harry Robinson, spoke with TMZ earlier today and said the remains arrived in New Jersey, but none of her personal belongings were with the body. He believes the personal items could be part of the police investigation.
Family members are planning a funeral service in New Jersey for next week, and may soon travel to Tanzania as they search for answers.
The family started a GoFundMe page to help cover travel costs and funeral expenses shortly after the social media star’s death. The page quickly surpassed its $50,000 goal, and climbed to more than $63,000.
The Miami-based influencer, born Ashly Robinson, was found unresponsive at a hotel in Zanzibar, Tanzania on April 8. She was hospitalized but passed away.
Robinson had traveled abroad for a dream vacation with her American fiancé, Joe McCann, who is being questioned in connection with her death.
On April 16, CBS News reported authorities in Tanzania were holding McCann’s passport until an autopsy is completed on Robinson. So far, no new information has been released about the status of the autopsy.
Robinson’s father told TMZ the family commissioned a separate, independent autopsy and the results are pending.
Meanwhile, Britt shared an update on X about McCann’s status on April 25. “As of right now he’s just detained and his passport withheld in Tanzania. But no arrest has been made. The investigation is still ongoing. Updates should be coming soon though!” the publicist tweeted.
McCann, 45, and Robinson were in Tanzania celebrating her 31st birthday. She posted a video to Instagram on April 4, revealing he had proposed. The pair looked thrilled in the footage, but their happiness soon faded.
Robinson’s parents offered insight about the couple’s relationship in a series of interviews.
They said their daughter contacted them on April 8, and revealed she and McCann had gotten into a heated argument. Hotel management at the Zuri Zanzibar luxury resort separated the two and moved McCann to a different villa. Robinson died a short time later.
