Watson will soon say goodbye after two seasons.
CBS canceled the Sherlock Holmes-inspired medical drama series, with Deadline first reporting the news on Friday.
Based on 19th century characters created by British writer and physician Arthur Conan Doyle, Watson takes place six months after the death of Sherlock Holmes at the hands of his mortal enemy Moriarty.
Morris Chestnut leads the cast as Dr. John Watson, who resumes his medical career as head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders.
Each week, Dr. Watson and his team of fellows solve medical mysteries that left other doctors stumped. Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Inga Schlingmann, Ritchie Coster, and Rochelle Aytes also star.
Watson premiered in January 2025 following the AFC Championship game. The debut episode drew 9.5 million viewers in live+ same day viewing and DVR playback. After moving to its regular Sunday night time slot, the series averaged 6.79 million in its first season, according to Nielsen data provided by CBS.
The second season debuted in October 2025 and has struggled in the ratings after getting moved around the schedule.
To date, season 2 has averaged 2.8 million viewers and a 0.17 rating in the 18-49 demographic, according to Nielsen figures compiled by TV series finale.
Watson is produced by CBS Studios. Craig Sweeny serves as showrunner and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Morris Chestnut, Sallie Patrick, Larry Teng, Shäron Moalem MD, PhD, Aaron Kaplan, and Brian Morewitz.
The final episode of the medical mystery will air on Sunday, May 3, at 10/9c.

CBS also canceled freshman comedy DMV about the East Hollywood branch of the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
The single-camera workplace comedy follows a group of underpaid employees dealing with chaos on the job and personal drama.
Harriet Dyer, Tim Meadows, Molly Kearney, Tony Cavalero, Alex Tarrant, and Gigi Zumbado lead the cast.
The CBS Studios-produced series premiered in October 2025. To date, the season has averaged 3.02 million viewers in live+ same day viewing and DVR playback and a 0.24 rating in the advertiser coveted 18-49 demographic.
Dana Klein created DMV, based on the short story Chicken-Flavored and Lemon-Scented by Katherine Heiny. The last episode is scheduled to air in May.
The cancellation news comes after CBS renewed a string of shows for the 2026-2027 season, the network announced in January.
Those shows include Marshals; George & Mandy’s First Marriage; CIA; FBI; Tracker; Matlock; Elsbeth; Fire Country; NCIS; NCIS: Origins; NCIS Sydney; Boston Blue; Sheriff Country; Ghosts; Survivor; and The Amazing Race.
The new series Cupertino and Einstein will join the network’s schedule next season.
