Robert Cosby Jr., the son of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby, has died. He was 23.

Mary confirmed Robert’s death in a statement she posted to Instagram on Wednesday, Feb. 25.

“Our beloved son Robert Jr. has been called home to the Lord. Though our hearts ache, we take comfort in God’s promise and in knowing he is finally at peace. We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow,” the statement read.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Robert was found unresponsive at a home his mother owns in Salt Lake City’s Upper Avenues neighborhood.

Police responded to the house on Monday, Feb. 23, after receiving a call about a possible drug overdose. The official cause of death is under investigation.

Robert Jr. appeared on RHOSLC several times and discussed substance abuse with his mom on the show. He was also shown on the series with his ex-wife Alexiana Smokoff.

According to TMZ, Robert and Alexiana’s alleged drug problems were part of Mary’s storyline on the show. The young couple finalized their divorce in January 2026 after three years of marriage.

Robert Jr. was released from jail earlier this month after serving two months for allegedly violating a pretrial protective order by going to Alexiana’s family home.

He pleaded guilty in November to assault, criminal trespass, violation of a protective order, violation of a jail release court order and other charges.

Mary was an original member of the RHOSLC cast when the reality series premiered on Bravo in 2020, and has left and returned to the reality series since it debuted.

She leads the Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, and is famously known for marrying her step grandfather.

Real Housewives franchise executive producer Andy Cohen released a statement Wednesday afternoon calling Robert’s death “devastatingly sad.”

“This is every parent’s worst nightmare,” Cohen wrote in an Instagram story. “My heart is broken for Mary and I am sending all my love to her and Robert Sr.
