County jail was uncomfortable, cold and “humbling,” Karen Huger shared in a new interview.
The Real Housewives of Potomac star detailed the time she spent behind bars, for driving under the influence, on the Thursday, Feb. 12, episode of Sherri.
Huger, 62, walked on set in a figure-hugging, rust-colored dress. When host Sherri Shepherd told her she looked amazing, the Bravo star said her focus is on what’s inside.
“This is not a reflection of what God has done for me since I healed myself. So, thank you. But the inside is what matters, she told Shepherd.
Huger was recorded on a police body camera slurring words and stumbling out of her car in March 2024. A Maryland jury found her guilty of DUI and other counts, and a judge sentenced her to two years in county jail with one year suspended in February 2025.
She was released after six months on Sept. 2, 2025.

She told Shepherd what it was like spending her days inside a county lockup.
“I was not in federal. I didn’t have the cushy white collar situation. I had [it] hardcore. I was on a metal bed, facing a cold, cement wall for six months,” she said.
The reality star, who is known to fans for her luxurious lifestyle, said she decided to share her story in hopes of preventing others from making the same mistakes.
“I don’t want anyone to experience what I experienced. But I wasn’t alone. So, I made it through, me and God, just had a good old time dancing together in there,” she said.
Huger said she has taken responsibility for her actions.
“I want to be crystal clear. No one should drink and drive. I was wrong, absolutely dead wrong. I’m so grateful no one was killed. No other person was hurt. Yeah, I’m so grateful to be alive. I could have died,” she told Shepherd.
“The reality of being inside is your liberties are gone. It’s a humbling experience, but it’s an empowering experience if you don’t fight it,” she continued. “If you take it for what it’s supposed to be, which is to better you and to continue on my healing of addiction.”
Shepherd asked how she’s doing now.
“I take it one day at a time. I’m not telling you that I don’t feel it. I feel it. But I serve a mighty God,” Huger stated.
She became defensive when Shepherd asked why that didn’t stop her from getting behind the wheel and driving drunk.
“You can’t speak for me though, Sherry,” she insisted. “It did hit me. But sometimes we run away from our reality. Okay. And I was running and that was my choice. I heard. I just didn’t listen.”
She explained one of the key turning points in her recovery journey was having her two children visit her in jail.
“I’m definitely not lessening the impact of the severity or the severity of what I did, but seeing my babies through a glass window and the pain that put them through… I have two beautiful children. I didn’t think about how they would feel looking at their mama through a glass window,” she said. “So, that alone keeps me grounded. I never want to put them through that again.”
The fan favorite star admitted she’s struggled with alcohol and pills, and continues to undergo treatment for her addiction.
She was asked if she might return to RHOP on a full-time basis. “Whether I return or not. Um, you know, that’s to be seen,” she responded.
