Today anchor Savannah Guthrie issued a plea for help after her mother disappeared in Arizona, and authorities confirmed the case is being treated as a criminal investigation.

On Monday evening, Feb. 2, Guthrie released a statement on Instagram, saying she and her family believe in God and the power of prayer.

“We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” she wrote alongside an image that read: “Please pray.”

The news anchor added in the caption, “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.”

During a press conference earlier in the day, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said police suspect foul play in the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie in Tucson, Arizona. Detectives have declared her home a crime scene due to circumstances they described as “suspicious in nature.”

Nancy was reported missing on Sunday, Feb. 1. She was last seen the previous night at her home after family members left for the evening.

According to Nanos, concern grew the next morning when a friend from church noticed Nancy had not arrived for Sunday service and alerted the family. Her children went to the house, searched on their own, then called 911 when they realized something was wrong.

Deputies, neighbors, and search-and-rescue teams with trained dogs have been involved in the ongoing search.

As the investigation continues, Savannah Guthrie has stepped back from her hosting duties. She did not appear on Today Monday morning, but her co-hosts Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones opened the third hour of the show by asking if anyone had any information and shared a statement from Savannah.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support,” she said. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom. We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Office at 520-351-4900.”

Nancy Guthrie is the mother of three children — Savannah, her older brother Cameron, and her younger sister Annie.

Authorities say the investigation remains active, and they continue to urge anyone with information to come forward as the search continues.
