Mo’Nique told Shannon Sharpe to leave “young b–hes” alone on his “Club Shay Shay” podcast back in 2024. Now the comedian is voicing support for the former NFL star after he settled a $50 million lawsuit accusing him of raping a young woman.

The Precious star addressed the scandal surrounding Sharpe during an Instagram Live session with her followers on Aug. 13.

When a fan asked her thoughts on the situation, Mo’Nique referred to the NFL hall-of-famer as “my brother” in the video, reposted by 9MagTV.

“How do I feel about Shannon Sharpe? That’s my brother and I love him, that’s how I feel,” she said. “We’ve all not walked the perfect line, we’ve all had mistakes, we’ve all taken a fall, we’ve all had to get up and get to going again.

The comedian added that she would not “quit” on Sharpe during a difficult time.

“I know what it feels like to be thrown away. I know what it feels like for people to quit on you and give up on you. That won’t be me. Shannon Sharpe? That’s Shay Shay, baby we love him,” she said.

The Deliverance actress then shared a story about confronting someone in the audience at a comedy show after they booed Sharpe when his name was mentioned.

“I was doing a show in one city, one night, somebody said his name and I heard this woman in the crowd and she said, ‘Boo,’ and I said, ‘No, you won’t do that. No, you will not do that. Whatever you feeling about my brother, if you ain’t got something nice to say, be quiet, that’s all,'” she said.

Sharpe’s fortunes changed on April 20, when a woman he met at a gym in 2023 filed a bombshell sexual abuse lawsuit in Nevada.

The 13-page complaint said the woman met Sharpe when she was 19 years old and he was in his 50s, and it alleged he later raped her “two different times” after they began dating and she confronted him about “cheating.”

He denied the allegations and said he was being shaken down by Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, who represents the anonymous Jane Doe accuser.

“This is a shakedown. I’m going to be open, transparent, and defend myself because this isn’t right,” Sharpe said in a video statement. “This is all being orchestrated by Tony Buzbee, who has targeted Jay-Z. Tony Buzbee targets Black men.”

On July 18, Buzbee announced the two sides had reached a settlement after “respectful negotiations.”

“Both sides acknowledge a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship,” Buzbee wrote in a statement. “After protracted and respectful negotiations, I’m pleased to announce that we have reached a mutually agreed upon resolution.”

ESPN parted ways with Sharpe less than two weeks later, officially ending his time as a contributor on First Take.

The amount of the settlement was not disclosed and Sharpe’s attorney Lanny Davis declined comment to Urban Hollywood 411.

Although weeks earlier, Davis revealed at a news conference that Sharpe had offered the woman “at least $10 million” to settle the complaint. Instead, he said she filed the $50 lawsuit “without warning.”

In February 2024, Mo’Nique did a lengthy interview with Sharpe on his “Club Shay Shay” podcast.

Besides bashing Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry and Kevin Hart for supposedly being Hollywood “gatekeepers” and allegedly blocking her from opportunities in the entertainment industry, she warned Sharpe to stop dating younger women.

“You better take your old a– and get somebody to love you,” she said.

Sharpe laughed off the comment and told her, “Damn Mo!”

Mo’Nique then turned to the camera and said, “He need him an old fat gal, who can bake good cakes, make some smothered turkey wings, who’s gone rub his feet at the night time.”

She wasn’t done dishing out the advice

“You don’t need no 26-year-old girl, you don’t need no 36-year-old girl. This is your aunty talking to you,” Mo’Nique said. “Take your old a– and get you an old b–h out there that can love you old. You trying to hang out with these young b–ches, you can’t do it Shannon, you just can’t do it!”
