One month after winning the American Idol season 23 title, Jamal Roberts has landed a gig with some of the biggest names in R&B music.
This fall, the Mississippi teacher will join Brandy and Monica on their highly anticipated The Boy Is Mine tour.
The tour is named after the pair’s hit 1998 single, which spent a record 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
Grammy winners Kelly Rowland and Muni Long will also be going on the road with Brandy and Monica. The 24-city arena tour is produced by Black Promoters Collective, which announced the concert series on June 24.

Shelby Joyner, president of Black Promoters Collective, described the tour as a “cultural homecoming,” 25 years in the making in a statement to Urban Hollywood 411.
Roberts will be one of the opening acts on the tour, which kicks off Oct. 16 in Cincinnati, Ohio and concludes Dec. 7 in Houston, Texas.
The singer shared details on Instagram, captioning the post: “The things God is doing in my life. Hmmmmm and new music is on the way. Sit tight. Oh and I love y’all. #YourFavoriteNephew #yourfavoritecousin #THEAmericanIdol.”
USA Today reported 26 million viewers cast votes in the American Idol season 23 finale last month.
Three singers made it to the end of the competition — Roberts, John Foster and Breanna Nix. Midway through the show, Nix was eliminated and Roberts ultimately took the title.
The gym teacher won over Idol viewers with his heartfelt performances, including his new single “Heal.”
He was the first Black man to win Idol, since season 2 champion Ruben Studdard in 2003.
Now, Jamal Roberts is going on the road with Brandy and Monica, and will be introduced to a new audience.
