Now that Duane “Keefe D” Davis has been convicted of orchestrating the killing of rap legend Tupac Shakur, he’ll have to wait another six weeks to learn how much time he’ll spend behind bars.
Davis, 63, is scheduled to be sentenced in Las Vegas on Oct. 13, 2026, after his conviction in the rapper’s 1996 murder.
Judge Carli Kierny set the date on Monday, Aug. 31, shortly after jurors found Davis guilty of first-degree murder in the rapper’s death. Davis faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison.
Until his sentencing, he will remain locked up without bail. Davis has been jailed since his arrest on Sept. 29, 2023.
The October hearing marks the final chapter of a criminal case that went unsolved for nearly three decades.

Davis stood silently as the verdict was read Monday evening after about three hours of jury deliberations. In video streamed live from the courtroom, he said he plans to appeal.
As Urban Hollywood 411 previously reported, prosecutors accused the former gang leader of organizing the fatal attack on Shakur after the rapper and members of his entourage assaulted Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, inside the MGM Grand.
Davis was not accused of firing the shots. Instead, prosecutors said he provided the gun and was riding in the white Cadillac that pulled up alongside the BMW carrying Shakur and Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight.
Shakur was shot near the Las Vegas Strip on Sept. 7, 1996. He died six days later at age 25.
Knight was wounded but survived the shooting. He is currently serving a 28-year sentence in California for a 2015 killing near a music video shoot in Compton.
The prosecution relied heavily on Davis’ own words from interviews and his 2019 memoir, Compton Street Legend.
He recounted details about the shooting, admitted he was in Las Vegas at the time, and laughed about Tupac’s murder during a 2021 interview with the Art of Dialogue YouTube channel.
Davia said his crew had been looking for Tupac after the MGM Grand incident. They spotted the “Dear Mama” rapper as he leaned out of the window of the BMW and waved to fans.
“Dude was hanging out, like he was in a parade or something, stupid a–, hanging out the window,” Keefe D said. “We were like, ‘Oh, there goes that mother–r.’ So we popped a [U-turn] and that was it.”
His interviews were played during the trial. Defense attorneys argued Keefe D embellished those accounts for internet fame and to make money. They also questioned why it took authorities so long to charge him despite interviewing him years earlier.
Jurors ultimately sided with prosecutors and found Davis guilty of planning the attack.
Davis was the only person ever arrested in connection with the hip-hop legend’s killing. His sentence will be announced nearly 30 years after Tupac’s death.
