The Morris Chestnut series Watson is coming back to CBS in the fall.

The medical drama will return early and air on Monday nights after FBI, the network announced as it unveiled its fall primetime premiere dates for the 2025–2026 broadcast season.

Watson was originally slated for a midseason return, but CBS moved up the premiere date after its FBI spinoff CIA was delayed.

According to Variety, CIA will now move to midseason as the law enforcement drama gets retooled.

Based on the late 19th century characters created by British writer and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Watson takes place six months after the death of Sherlock Holmes at the hands of his mortal enemy Moriarty.

The series premiered in January 2025 following the AFC Championship game. The debut episode drew 18.7 million multiplatform viewers in live plus 35 days of viewing, making it CBS’ most-watched scripted episode of the 2024–2025 season, according to Nielsen data provided by the network.

After moving to its regular Sunday night time slot, Watson averaged 6.79 million viewers weekly. CBS renewed the series for a second season just two months after its premiere.

Watson is produced by CBS Studios. Craig Sweeny serves as showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers include Morris Chestnut, Sallie Patrick, Larry Teng, Shäron Moalem MD, PhD, Aaron Kaplan, and Brian Morewitz.

Along with Watson, The Neighborhood and new workplace comedy DMV, starring Harriet Dyer and Tim Meadows, will air on Mondays, followed by FBI from Dick Wolf.

The changes to the Monday lineup come after the cancellations of FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted in March.

Special programming for the season includes CBS’ first-ever broadcast of the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 7; the 77th Emmy Awards on Sept. 14; and a repeat of “A Grammy Salute to Earth, Wind & Fire Live: The 21st Night of September” on Sept. 21.
