Authorities in Martin County, Florida said deputies found opioid pills on Tiger Woods and he was “sweating profusely” when he was arrested Friday on suspicion of DUI.

Woods was taken into custody on Jupiter Island after his SUV hit a truck near the pro golfer’s home on March 27.

The pro golfer was “lethargic and slow,” the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said in the arrest affidavit released to ESPN Tuesday morning.

The affidavit noted deputies asked Woods if he had consumed any alcohol before getting behind the wheel of his SUV and he responded “none.” Woods told deputies he was distracted at the time of the crash because he was “looking down” at his phone and “changing the radio station,” according to the affidavit.

When asked if he had taken any prescription medications, Woods allegedly told arresting officers “I take a few.”

The accident happened when Woods’ Land Rover attempted to pass a truck hauling a pressure cleaning trailer and “clipped” the truck, the sheriff’s office said. Responding officers found the SUV flipped over on the driver’s side door. Woods climbed out of a window and no one was hurt.

Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek said at a news conference Friday that the golf legend agreed to a breathalyzer test, which came out negative. However, Woods declined to take a urine test.

According to the arrest affidavit, the golfer’s eyes were “bloodshot and glassy” and his pupils were “extremely dilated.” Deputies said they found two white pills in his left pants pocket that were determined to be hydrocodone.

Hydrocodone is an opioid used to treat severe and chronic pain, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Woods was asked to perform a field sobriety test, which the report said he struggled to complete because he was “limping and stumbling.”

“Based on my observations of Woods, how he performed the exercises and based on my training, knowledge, and experience, I believed that his normal facilities were impaired, and he was unable to safely operate the motor vehicle,” a deputy wrote in the affidavit.

Another deputy “observed several signs of impairment and requested I conduct a DUI Investigation to ensure Woods was able to operate the motor vehicle in a safe manner at the time of the collision,” the report said.

Woods told deputies he was recovering from more than 20 operations on his right leg, which was injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash near Los Angeles in 2021.

“I asked Woods if he was able to perform tasks such as walking and lifting his leg, Woods advised he has a limp and his ankle seizes while walking,” a deputy wrote in the affidavit.

Following the sobriety test, he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, the Associated Press reported.

Woods posted bail late Friday night and was released from custody. He pleaded not guilty this afternoon and hired a criminal defense attorney who worked with him on a previous case.

This was the latest in a string of car crashes involving Woods. In November 2009, he crashed into a fire hydrant outside his home in Windermere, Florida. He was cited for careless driving.

Woods was arrested for DUI in June 2017 in Florida. In a statement, he blamed a “mix of medications” and later pleaded guilty to reckless driving.

In February 2021, the pro golfer was hospitalized after a single-vehicle rollover crash in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Authorities said he had to be cut out of the mangled vehicle. He suffered severe injuries, but no charges were filed.
