“I was going so long in my career that I didn’t even realize I was never the lead of a film before,” the actor said in a new interview.
Contenders in the category include ‘The Color Purple,’ ‘Barbie’ and ‘Rustin.’
“It is hard to overstate Bayard Rustin’s influence,” Obama told the HBCU First Look Film Festival.
The festival kicks off this month at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
The film is based on real events, with the Obamas serving as executive producers.
Netflix released the trailer on the 60th anniversary of the pivotal Civil Rights event.
