“‘Emancipation’ was the individual most difficult film of my entire career,” Smith told the audience.
There were several surprises when the Oscar nominations were announced.
“It was emasculating,” the actor shared on ‘Red Table Talk.’
‘Nope’ and ‘Nanny’ were also shut out of the nominations.
The film arrives in theaters on December 2 and begins streaming Dec. 9 on Apple TV+.
The film is inspired by the true story of a slave known as “Whipped Peter.”
Smith leads the cast as a slave named Peter who escapes a Louisiana plantation.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell thanked the actor for his generosity.
