The first trailer for S.W.A.T. Exiles offers an action-packed look at Shemar Moore’s return as LAPD Sgt. Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson.
Premiering Sept. 25, the police drama finds Hondo sidelined after a high-profile mission goes wrong, leading to the death of young operator Nico Reyes.
But Hondo’s retirement doesn’t last long. His former commanding officer, played by Patrick St. Esprit, offers him one final chance to get back in the game.
The LAPD sergeant is asked to build and lead an experimental S.W.A.T. unit made up of talented but unpredictable recruits who were passed over by other departments.
The trailer introduces the team and makes it clear they have a lot to prove.
“I read your personnel files, all of them, and I saw what they saw: rejections, flaws and reasons to pass you over,” Hondo tells the recruits. “Then they paired you with me, a ‘disgraced has-been clinging to his badge.’ That is what they say about me behind my back.”

Hondo has an ominous warning for the team. “They didn’t pick us to succeed or anything. They picked us all to burn together,” he says.
The new squad includes Sammy Bishop (played by Lucy Barrett), a gun-show influencer determined to prove herself. Ethan Cole (Freddy Miyares) is a socially awkward tactical guru. Cassidy Reed (Zyra Gorecki) is a guarded recruit fighting to earn her place. Jude Callan (Ronen Rubinstein) is a wildcard with a troubled past, and Malik Anderson (Adain Bradley) is an ambitious officer hiding secrets of his own.
Together, they become the Exiles, a unit seemingly built to fail, but determined to succeed despite facing cartel assassins, gunrunners, and other dangerous criminals around Los Angeles.
Hondo soon realizes the danger extends beyond the streets. Someone with influence appears to be setting up S.W.A.T. to fail, in an effort to replace it with a more controllable unit.
“Alliances shift, loyalties are tested, and by the season’s end, Hondo and the Exiles are forced into a final reckoning that will determine not just their careers, but the future of S.W.A.T. itself,” according to the official description.
The 10-episode S.W.A.T. spinoff is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
Jason Ning (Lucifer) serves as showrunner. Moore, Neal H. Moritz, James Scura and Pavun Shetty are executive producers.
S.W.A.T. Exiles premieres Friday, Sept. 25. New episodes stream in the U.S. weekly on Fridays through the Starz app and all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms.
